Reading/Language Arts: Read Satchel Paige. Study 26 spelling words for test tomorrow (refer to SWB page 13. Today, students practiced the skill compare and contrast using information from Satchel Paige. Importantly, we used words like "both" to show similarities and "in contrast" to show differences. Including enough information was emphasized.

Social Studies: Quiz today - no homework for Friday

Homeroom Reminder: Please bring your costume to school. There will be time after lunch to change into costumes for the parade.

Please study your V.O. It's almost the end of the marking period. Students should be studying for a test on all words, suffixes and prefixes next week.

Field Trip to the Philadelphia Zoo is Tuesday, October 18. Students may wear gym clothes for the trip - including dress code appropriate shorts. Just a reminder: plan to arrive at NSE at approximately 7:15 so that we may leave at 7:30. We will return to NSE around 5:30. Should the return time change, teachers will contact the number provided on the permission form to notify you of the change.

Reading: Completed Island of the Blue Dolphins test today.

Reading/Language Arts (Periods 1 and 2): Island of the Blue Dolphins test is Monday. Please read the story and study the vocabulary that can be found in your book preceding the story and on RWB page 24. We review and practice vocabulary daily to make learning unfamiliar words easier.

Social Studies: Maya and Aztec quiz needs to be signed and returned by Tuesday.

Fifth Grade Field Trip is Tuesday. Your child will be under the supervision of a responsible chaperone. It will be an enjoyable day. Also, it is very important that your child dresses appropriately for the weather. Please remember that you will need to provide transportation to and from school. Your child will need to arrive around 7:15 a.m. so that there a comfortable amount of time to get everyone organized. The bus is leaving at 7:30. We will return to NSE at approximately 5:30 p.m. We will call the contact numbers provided to inform you of a delay in the return time.

Reading/Language Arts: Several papers have been returned that were completed last week by your child. Of particular importance is the Fresh Reads meaning that these selections were read independently by your child. No assistance was provided to answer the questions. In reviewing the answers, I am focusing on students rereading to locate literal details that will answer the question. Sometimes students need to infer, but often times the answer can be found within the passage.
