Period 1: Vocabulary Quiz on Wednesday (Study story words from Shutting Out the Sky for vocabulary quiz on Wednesday. The story words can be found on page 114 in the textbook and pages 42 and 44 in the workbook.

Period 2: Text page 128 questions 1-4 on the sheet of paper given to you in class. Answer in complete sentences

Period 3: Complete text page 128 questions 1-4 on the sheet of paper given to you in class. Answer in complete sentences for text page 128. Also, complete RWB page 47. You do not need to write sentences to answer questions 1-4 in the workbook. Question 5 requires sentences.

Period 4: Finish WS for "Chicago American Giants."

Period 5: Students will need to finish selection test tomorrow.

Period 6: Homework assigned is the same as Period 3.

Period 1: In class students read text page 113 and identified the causes for immigration to America from 1880 to 1930. Students are assigned to complete the cause and effect worksheet using the story from RWB page 43.
Period 2: In class students read text page 113 and identified the causes for immigration to America from 1880 to 1930. Also, vocabulary for "Shutting Out the the Sky" was introduced.
Students are assigned to complete the cause and effect worksheet using the stroy from RWB page 43.
Period 3: Vocabulary for "Shutting Out the Sky" was introduced. We also completed RWB page 44.
Period 4: Students continued to read "The Chicago American Giants." Students need to compete the vocabulary worksheet.
Period 5: Students completed a worksheet to practice cause and effect referencing the passage from RWB page 43. Vocabulary for "Shutting Out the Sky" was introduced. Students need to complete RWB page 44 for homework.
Period 6: We reviewed RWB page 44 in class. We began reading "Shutting Out the Sky." Students are assigned to read the story and review vocabulary.

Period 1: Today, we discussed coming to America and experiencing Ellis Island in preparation for reading our next selection, Shutting Out the Sky.
Period 2: We are studying how an event can have multiple causes and how one cause can result in multiple effects. (Cause/Effect Relationships - Reference Text pages 112-113) - READ AR
Period 3: Same as Period 2 - READ AR
Period 4: Students are reading The Chicago American Giants in small groups. Please get your Satchel Paige test signed if the score is below 80%.
Period 5: Same as Period 2 - READ AR
Period 6: Introduced and discussed vocabulary for Shutting Out the Sky - READ AR

There is no written homework in Periods 1-6. Students will be taking the 4Sight Assessment during reading and math classes on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Students in Periods 2, 3, 5, and 6 must continue to read AR.

This week, students will read Satchel Paige, a biography. The selection test is tentatively scheduled for Friday, November 6, 2009 for Periods 1-3 and 5-6.

Students in Period 4 need to first finish reading Stuk's Village before we begin reading Satchel Paige. Vocabulary and comprehension test for Period 4 for Satchel Paige will be the following week.

For today, please check your child's homework book for the specific assignment, due to my absence.
