Reading/Language Arts:  Complete Vocabulary Worksheet.  Refer to text page 165.  Besides writing the correct vocabulary word, you must also identify a context clue (what words from the selection on page 165 give a hint for the definition for each word).  Read Passage to Freedom.  Also, read your essay again.  Write 2 quotations that would be appropriate to include in your essay. 

Social Studies:  Complete Lesson 2 note guide (questions 1-6).

Reading/Language Arts:  Revise the narrative essay.  Replace boring words with lively words - thesaurus, online dictionary to search for synonyms.  Start by checking - Did you use adjectives to describe nouns (examples as discussed in class - proud dog, fluffy dog, fragile necklace, worn picture frame)?  Also, as you describe the meaningful event about your treasured item, remember to write details that appeal to the senses. 

Homeroom Reminder:  Friday, February 14 will be a full day of classes for students.  Valentine's Day parties will be held on this date instead of February 13.  This information is also on the revised February calendar that was sent home with all students today.

Bring in your Valentine's Day cards on Friday February 14.  Part of the fun is handing them out to your classmates!

Reading/Language Arts:  Write the introduction and the body of the essay in your notebook.  Skip lines.  The prompt is:  Tell about a time when you got something you treasured.  For the introduction, consider explaining what the item is and why it is special to you.  For the body of the essay, consider explaining a meaning event about the treasured item.  Just as a reminder - think about my frisbee example.
You are required to explain, explain, explain.  Include lots of details that appeal to the reader's senses.
